DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID

Security Oil now offers Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) to help you protect the environment and your heavy equipment engines.

In 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency implemented stricter Heavy-Duty Engine and Vehicle Standards in an effort to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) and other emissions from diesel engines. As a result, most manufacturers now use an emission control and reduction system called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). SCR systems use DEF in the exhaust to reduce NOx to the harmless elements water and nitrogen.

HOW IT WORKS

With fleet fueling, we come to your site and fuel up all your trucks and other equipment after hours, overnight or in the evening. Our fleet fueling service includes a detailed, accurate invoice of exactly how many gallons of fuel are delivered to each vehicle. Our delivery drivers are conscientious and our trucks are reliable, so you can rest assured your vehicles will be fueled when and where you need them to be.

Fleet fueling is a convenient and cost-effective solution for construction sites, temporary job sites, and delivery and service fleets of all sizes.

WHAT IS DEF?

DEF stands for Diesel Exhaust Fluid, which is a colorless, non-toxic, non-flammable colorless liquid that helps reduce emissions in diesel engines. It’s a chemical, not a lubricant or fuel, and it’s made from a 32.5%/67.5% solution of high-grade urea and deionized water. The urea used is more pure and has cleaner ingredients than you’d find in agricultural fertilizer.

Maintaining the purity and quality of DEF is important to protect your trucks’ SCR systems, control emissions, and improve the fuel economy of your vehicles. DEF should be stored out of direct sunlight, at temperatures between 12°F and 90°F. Although freezing won’t affect its integrity, DEF will need to be heated in the winter so it can maintain a liquid form. With proper storage, you can expect diesel exhaust fuel to last about two years.

To prevent contaminants from getting into the DEF, and eventually your SCR system, use only stainless steel and/or approved plastics for storage and dispensing. Do not use tanks, nozzles, pumps, hoses, etc. containing aluminum, carbon steel, or copper. These materials can react with the diesel exhaust fluid, causing your storage tanks to leak. The contaminated DEF can also damage your SCR system.

AVAILABILITY

We provide DEF through totes drums and jugs. Transport delivery available upon request. Bulk DEF fueling is scheduled to be added at each card lock location over the coming year.
